Square Baby Quilt Complete

I finished the square quilt I have been working on recently! I love the way it turned out. I hope my sweet friend does too. I hope she wraps her little baby boy up it in when he gets here! As I mentioned before, this quilt is based on "Modern Meadow" by Lee of Freshly Pieced. She said hers is based on "Chain Linked" by Amy Smart of Diary of a Quilter.

Edit: You can find my tutorial of this quilt here.

Washing and drying quilts always make them so crinkly. So fun!

The light was really harsh when I was snapping these pictures, but I had about 20 minutes to take them and wrap it up before we went to the shower.

For the backing I used a gray and white striped fabric called Stripe Gray from the Lost and Found 2 collection by Mind's Eye for Riley Blake. I've found that I love neutrals for the back of my quilts lately. It makes the piecing on the front stand out so much more.

I picked up this t-shirt box at Michael's. There is one about 2 minutes from our apartment. Dangerously close. I just used some black paint I had on hand to write little Lukes name on top. I've found that using apparel puff paint makes it so easy to write text when you're in a time crunch. All in all this was such a fun quilt to work on.

I also featured this packaging on my Calligraphy blog if you wanted to check it out!

Square Baby Quilt Top Pieced

I finished piecing the top together for this quilt! I need to quilt and bind it to take to the baby shower this coming Sunday afternoon. I'm also making a cake for the shower. So much to do! All fun though.

I just got the backing fabric in the mail! I ordered just enough. I think its only about 1" bigger all the way around than top piece. Way too tight for me. I'm going to have to pin like crazy.

I have some blue striped fabric left over from the backing of this quilt that I think I'm going to use for the binding. Either that or gray. I haven't quite decided yet.

I also included the little sketch I did to figure out the color and layout of this quilt. I basically used 1 grid square as a 2"x2" piece of fabric. It's been pretty helpful having it available to look at.

Now onto quilting and binding!

Square Baby Quilt WIP

I finished piecing together the strips for the square baby quilt I'm working on.

Above are the white blocks sashed with gray fabric and below are the gray blocks sashed with the white fabric.

It won't be long now before this quilt top is pieced!

Wonky Star Baby Quilt Top

I finished piecing together this wonky star quilt top. I love the way it turned out. It was so fun to put together since there wasn't an exact pattern to follow.

I started piecing this after I saw Jolene's post on her blog Blue Elephant Stitches. She linked to the Wonky Star Tutorial found here.

I used scraps I had on hand. A few Kona Solids, a Kaffe Fassett print, some quilters linen, and a few other prints. I need to get more of the Dottie Cream Shroom print. I've found it's interesting yet subtle and goes with most everything I piece together.

This will be another baby quilt. Not sure who it will end up with yet!

Now to figure out what to use for the backing and binding...

Roller Rink Mini Quilt

Here is another mini quilt I made for our Modern Patchwork Mini Quilt Club that I am a part of at City Craft. This one is called the Roller Rink Mini Quilt.

Each month we create a mini quilt from Elizabeth Hartman's newest book "Modern Patchwork." Elizabeth provides instructions to make mini versions of each of the quilts in her book. You can find them here.

I love how clean and simple this one is. I thought I would continue that feel with straight line quilting.

This was fun! I'd love to make a full quilt out of this pattern.

Xylophone Mini Quilt

I am part of the Modern Patchwork Mini Quilt Club at my local fabric boutique, City Craft.

Each month we create a mini quilt from Elizabeth Hartman's newest book "Modern Patchwork." Elizabeth provides instructions to make mini versions of each of the quilts in her book. You can find them here.

Last month we worked on the Xylophone Mini Quilt. I'd like to make a whole quilt of this one. It was so simple to cut and put together!

I still need to sew binding on but haven't decided what fabric to use yet.

I love doing these mini quilts because it helps me practice different quilting styles. It's not as daunting trying a new style on such a small quilt sandwich!

A Meaningful Quilt

Some dear friends of ours have been in the adoption process for quite a few years now. They have been through some rough times throughout the years during the process. This heartache has brought about such jubilation when Bella officially became theirs recently! At the baby shower we all left sweet little notes to baby Bella on some charm squares that I pieced into a simple quilt. I had it folded up ready to hand off to my friend Ashley who's going to quilt it when I realized I didn't take any pictures! Please pardon the creases.
