Large Swoon Baby Quilt

This is a quilt I finished for a dear friend of mine who is about to have a sweet baby boy.

I'm really proud that I was able to piece the front with fabrics from my stash. That's always a win!

I had originally thought that the front wouldn't have enough contrast but I love how it turned out.

I chose teal fabric for the backing and solid navy for the binding. I love how saturated the binding is in contrast with the rest of the quilt; it adds an extra punch of boy.

For the quilting on this I used my favorite meandering free motion quilting pattern. If you'd like information on this kind of free motion quilting, check out Elizabeth Hartman's post here.

I followed Lynne's tutorial from Lily's Quilts. You can find her post here.  It was so clear and easy to follow. Great job Lynne!

For the packaging I kept it simple like it usually do but I had time to wrap it in craft paper before writing on it. Ha. I like it a lot more this way. I just used a sharpie to write on the front and thick twine to make a bow. I baby Drew enjoys his quilt when he arrives! :)

Square Baby Quilt Top Pieced

I finished piecing the top together for this quilt! I need to quilt and bind it to take to the baby shower this coming Sunday afternoon. I'm also making a cake for the shower. So much to do! All fun though.

I just got the backing fabric in the mail! I ordered just enough. I think its only about 1" bigger all the way around than top piece. Way too tight for me. I'm going to have to pin like crazy.

I have some blue striped fabric left over from the backing of this quilt that I think I'm going to use for the binding. Either that or gray. I haven't quite decided yet.

I also included the little sketch I did to figure out the color and layout of this quilt. I basically used 1 grid square as a 2"x2" piece of fabric. It's been pretty helpful having it available to look at.

Now onto quilting and binding!

Half Square Triangle Baby Quilt Complete

I finally finished binding this Half Square Triangle quilt. It sat in a chair all folded up for at least 6 months.

Why is it so hard to finish the final step sometimes?

The design was inspired by this quilt from Crafty Blossom. All of her quilts are so beautiful!

I just used 6 solid fat quarters for the front of this quilt that I picked up at City Craft. I also bought my backing and binding fabric there as well. You can view my piecing process here.

I like the bright pop of orange the binding gives.

I quilted this in my old faithful meandering free motion quilting pattern. It's my favorite!

This turned out to be such a fun baby boy quilt. I can't wait to give it to the little guy!

Square Baby Quilt WIP

I finished piecing together the strips for the square baby quilt I'm working on.

Above are the white blocks sashed with gray fabric and below are the gray blocks sashed with the white fabric.

It won't be long now before this quilt top is pieced!

Square Baby Quilt Blocks

I've started working on a new baby boy quilt for a sweet friend of mine. I'm usually finished with quilts weeks before baby showers so I have time to focus on food and decorations but I am so behind on this one! Her shower is in 2 weeks! I am going to have to speed through the process. I'm kind of at a stand still because I ran out of white fabric. I have other white fabric but it doesn't exactly match. I need to just buy one kind of white fabric so I don't run into this problem in the future. I might go ahead and cut the binding and batting as I'm waiting for it to come in.

This quilt is based on "Modern Meadow" by Lee of Freshly Pieced. She said hers is based on "Chain Linked" by Amy Smart of Diary of a Quilter.

So far I've been able to use my scraps from my recent Pinwheel Quilt which has been nice. I'm reeeallly trying to not let my fabric stash get out of control. It's always fun buying new fabric for a new project but it's also a great feeling being able to complete a project using what you already have!

The fabrics used in these blocks are Kona Cotton Mint, Bella Solids Stone, Bella Solids Aqua, Bella Solids White Bleached, and another gray that I can't remember the name of! I bought it at City Craft when they were having a moving location sale. 60% off everything in the store! Can't beat that!

For these blocks I used 4 inch square blocks with 2 inch strip sashing. Once the blocks were completed I squared them up to 6.5 inches. This is when my little 6.5 inch acrylic ruler comes in handy. I'm ready to complete this quilt top! Here's hoping my fabric will get here today (fingers crossed)!

Pinwheel Baby Quilt Complete

I finished the pinwheel quilt I was working on for a friend!

I love how it turned out. There's something about having so much white space that makes it so sweet.

The backing fabric works so great with the front.

I took these pictures last night before I put the binding on. I finished the binding around 10:30 last night so I had to wait and take pictures of the final product this morning.

The little pinwheels are so cute!

Here it is with the orange binding attached. It adds a little pop of color. This was such a fun quilt to work on. I definitely want to make another one in this pattern sometime in the future.

Chevron and On Baby Quilt Pieced

I finished piecing together my Chevron and On quilt top!

It ended up being a little bigger than most of the baby quilts I've made. I like the size of it. It will be plenty big to bundle up the sweet baby boy it's going to be given to.

Again, I love the fact that I was able to use my scraps for this one. I'm trying really hard to not have a ton of fabric bins everywhere so these kind of projects help!

I think for the backing I want to do some sort of gray pattern. Not for sure yet.

I'm hoping to quilt this one this Saturday because I have a new baby quilt to start for a friend that wants to gift it at a baby shower on the 22nd of this month. Just waited for the fabric to come in. So excited to get started.

I'm thinking a bright color for the binding on this one. Maybe orange? Something fun at least. I will probably quilt it in a meandering free-motion design. It's just so fast, easy, and cute. Hard to beat it.

Half Square Triangle Quilt Peiced

Some friends of ours are having their first baby! We are so excited. We just went to the gender revealing party and found they were having a baby boy! I immediately started putting together a baby quilt in my mind and thought of some modern looking quilts by Crafty Blossom that I had seen online recently. Aren't the colors Erica picked out for this quilt amazing?! The piecing is simple and dynamic. I'm not sure what her method is for piecing, but this is what I came up with.

First, I took 6 fat quarters and squared them off to be 18"x18."

Then, I cut those squares into fourths creating four 9" squares of each color.

After that, I paired up all the squares front sides facing one another.

Then I sewed all the way around the sandwiches and cut them into fourths diagonally.

Once pressed open, they created the perfect little half square triangles.

I ended up with 48 squares or 96 triangles.

Once those were done I sewed them together randomly 6 squares across and 8 squares down.

And there you go! A simple cute quilt.
