Starburst Quilt Complete

I finished this Starburst baby quilt a while back. This was when I first learned how fun half square triangles can be! I could make so many fun designs with them.

I used solids and couple Kaffe Fassett fat quarters I've had for a while. The center star is made up of Millefiore Red fabric and the other pattern is from the same bundle. I don't remember the name. The orange is Kona Cotton Flame. So bright and fun!

I actually used some muslin I had on hand for the white. I was a little worried it wouldn't wash well with the other fabric since it wasn't great quality, but it worked out great! It actually came out of the dryer looking extra crinkly, which I love.

I don't know if I've mentioned it before but I don't wash and dry my fabric before I start sewing. I have no huge argument for that decision. I actually am impressed by those who take the time and care to wash, dry, and iron their fabric before they start. I think I just don't have the patience! Ha. So as you could imagine, looking at these bright colors, I was a tad worried when I washed it. I just imagined bright orange and red bleeding onto the crisp white.

It turned out great though! No problems at all.

For the backing, I used Dottie Cream Shroom fabric by Jay-Cyn Designs for Birch Fabrics. I love this fabric! I need to buy more of it.

I wanted to show a close up of a mistake I made while quilting. As you can see in the middle of the picture above, I quilted a wrinkled part of the fabric. It's not that noticeable but I wish I had pinned a little more thoroughly. Lesson learned!

For the binding I used a pretty fuchsia colored solid that matched some of the pinks in the patterned fabric.

I quilted this in a meandering free-motion quilting pattern.

It was so fun making a pattern up for this quilt using little half square triangles. Oh the possibilities! I'm not sure who will end up with this quilt, but I have a feeling it won't sit around long. My sweet friends are having babies right and left! :)

Charm Pack Quilt Completed : Bella's Quilt

I finished quilting and binding this precious quilt last week!

This was such a fun quilt to work on. One of my very first posts was on the completed top I had finished piecing together. So long ago!

I love how special this quilt is with all of the handwritten notes on it. I also love how simple it was to put together. I literally just used a single charm pack and a 2.5" border.

I had a couple of firsts with this project.

It was my first time to bind a quilt using the backing fabric. I used a tutorial like this one.

It was also my first time quilting these little flowers. I posted a video showing the process here.

I loved the way this special quilt turned out!

I featured the packaging for this quilt on my calligraphy blog if you wanted to take a look!

Baby Girl Pinwheel Quilt

Today I thought I would share a baby girl quilt my sweet mom finished recently. I gave her a Hello Gorgeous charm pack by Melissa Ybarra for Windham Fabrics for Mother's Day last May and was so excited to see what she had done with it. I purchased the fabric from Missouri Star Quilt Company. They have so many precut options. She used that charm pack along with white fabric (not sure what kind) and linen for the sashing. Isn't it beautiful?! If I remember correctly, I think she used the bottom left hand corner pinwheel print called Petal Penache for the backing.

The pinwheels are just half square triangles and really pop against the neutral linen. She quilted it using the meandering free motion quilting pattern. Here favorite too! Elizabeth Hartman has a great tutorial here.

A couple of weeks ago she gave this to a family that adopted a sweet little girl. I'm sure she will love it!

Wonky Star Baby Quilt Top

I finished piecing together this wonky star quilt top. I love the way it turned out. It was so fun to put together since there wasn't an exact pattern to follow.

I started piecing this after I saw Jolene's post on her blog Blue Elephant Stitches. She linked to the Wonky Star Tutorial found here.

I used scraps I had on hand. A few Kona Solids, a Kaffe Fassett print, some quilters linen, and a few other prints. I need to get more of the Dottie Cream Shroom print. I've found it's interesting yet subtle and goes with most everything I piece together.

This will be another baby quilt. Not sure who it will end up with yet!

Now to figure out what to use for the backing and binding...

Granny Square Quilt Blocks

I've begun piecing together blocks for a Granny Square quilt. The pattern can be found on the Moda Bake Shop. The pattern is by Jolene by Blue Elephant Stitches. She is so creative!

I strayed from the pattern just a bit. I wanted to use my Salt Water charm pack by Tula Pink that my sweet mom got for me while we were at Stitch Lab in Austin, Tx. I cut my charm pack squares into 2.5" squares.

I then cut 108 2.5" squares our of my White Bleached Bella Solid yardage. That's a lot of little white squares!

I like how it's coming along. I will end up with 9 blocks. I'm trying to decide if I will make a square baby quilt or maybe add more fabric to the top and bottom to make it more rectangular. Not sure yet!
