<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d-3w3DzEQCU/VGZkXCDKfKI/AAAAAAAAGAo/urMJnCVjURU/s1600/LargeSwoon1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d-3w3DzEQCU/VGZkXCDKfKI/AAAAAAAAGAo/urMJnCVjURU/s1600/LargeSwoon1.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a quilt I finished for a dear friend of mine who is about to have a sweet baby boy.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ait9IOSaeSQ/VGZkXJfh-FI/AAAAAAAAGAs/g90k3TzB0C4/s1600/LargeSwoon2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ait9IOSaeSQ/VGZkXJfh-FI/AAAAAAAAGAs/g90k3TzB0C4/s1600/LargeSwoon2.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm really proud that I was able to piece the front with fabrics from my stash. That's always a win!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tGSdhMj6jVQ/VGZkXJwA6vI/AAAAAAAAGAk/Oqg27e_lDi0/s1600/LargeSwoon3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tGSdhMj6jVQ/VGZkXJwA6vI/AAAAAAAAGAk/Oqg27e_lDi0/s1600/LargeSwoon3.png" /></a></div>
<br />
I had originally thought that the front wouldn't have enough contrast but I love how it turned out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6JYCZ-F2jqE/VGZkXvo9zmI/AAAAAAAAGAw/j97k9X5-8OQ/s1600/LargeSwoon4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6JYCZ-F2jqE/VGZkXvo9zmI/AAAAAAAAGAw/j97k9X5-8OQ/s1600/LargeSwoon4.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I chose teal fabric for the backing and solid navy for the binding. I love how saturated the binding is in contrast with the rest of the quilt; it adds an extra punch of boy.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YXjzuI-xa4I/VGZkXpylIUI/AAAAAAAAGA0/FWt9RGATty8/s1600/LargeSwoon5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YXjzuI-xa4I/VGZkXpylIUI/AAAAAAAAGA0/FWt9RGATty8/s1600/LargeSwoon5.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the quilting on this I used my favorite meandering free motion quilting pattern. If you'd like information on this kind of free motion quilting, check out <a href="http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2009/03/quilt-along-14-freemotion-quilting.html">Elizabeth Hartman's post here.</a> </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z3_NwrlMh4o/VGZkX_Xcv8I/AAAAAAAAGA8/aI15C0TU6p8/s1600/LargeSwoon6.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z3_NwrlMh4o/VGZkX_Xcv8I/AAAAAAAAGA8/aI15C0TU6p8/s1600/LargeSwoon6.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I followed Lynne's tutorial from Lily's Quilts. You can find her post <a href="http://lilysquilts.blogspot.com/2012/01/swoooooooooooon.html">here.</a> It was so clear and easy to follow. Great job Lynne!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the packaging I kept it simple like it usually do but I had time to wrap it in craft paper before writing on it. Ha. I like it a lot more this way. I just used a sharpie to write on the front and thick twine to make a bow. I baby Drew enjoys his quilt when he arrives! :)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a pillow cover I quilted recently. I was inspired by Amanda's <a href="http://www.bloglovin.com/viewer?post=2303686883&group=0&frame_type=a&blog=17131&frame=1&click=0&user=0" target="_blank">(Crazy Mom Quilts)</a> scrappy pillow she posted about <a href="http://www.bloglovin.com/viewer?post=2303686883&group=0&frame_type=a&blog=17131&frame=1&click=0&user=0" target="_blank">here.</a> I chose neutral scraps because I need a neutral pillow case but, ugh... It just looks so bland to me. I was thinking I may add some bright piping or binding on the edges to spruce it up. I also thought I could maybe appliqué a big "B" in the middle for Bynum. I'm not sure yet. I'm still brainstorming. I just know it's too plain for me right now. If any of you have any ideas, please let me know!</div>

I recently made this little "Ford" banner for a friend that was throwing a baby shower. I love the look of linen and white together. It's so pretty and clean and will match any decor. I love the scrap fabric banner they made to put behind it! So cute. This is the second banner I've made like this. <a href="http://brightlinen.blogspot.com/2014/01/knightleys-banner.html">View the first one here.</a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
It's so bright and fun. It turned out kind of small, but that's ok. I like having a variation of sizes on our couch. There's such satisfaction in completing a project made out of scraps! :)</div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MEB6UNWtUWI/U4868Q6lG1I/AAAAAAAAE84/cEBoYSUW3is/s1600/FatEightChart-web.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MEB6UNWtUWI/U4868Q6lG1I/AAAAAAAAE84/cEBoYSUW3is/s1600/FatEightChart-web.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have to be honest, I haven't made a quilt using fat eighths yet! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/fat-eighth-bundles" target="_blank">The Fat Quarter Shop has a great collection of fat eighth bundles. You should go check them out</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I know some of you have just finished a fat eighth project and have extra ones on hand you would like to cut up and use in your next project! If you are unfamiliar with fat eighths, they are half the height <span style="color: #999999;">( 9" x 22")</span> of fat quarters <span style="color: #999999;">( 18' x 22"). </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #999999;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The chart above shows the square cuts you can obtain from fat eighths. </div>

I used camo canvas that we had on hand and a bright orange zipper.</div>

I added a little leather knot to the zipper pull. I think it makes it a little manlier. What guy doesn't love a little leather?</div>

I followed <a href="http://aspoonfulofsugardesigns.com/2012/01/how-to-make-pencil-case/" target="_blank">this simple tutorial by A Spoonful of Sugar.</a> I was short on time so I eliminated the piecing of the outer fabric. You should go check out <a href="http://aspoonfulofsugardesigns.com/2012/01/how-to-make-pencil-case/" target="_blank">the tutorial</a> and make one for yourself or someone special. It was a quick fun project that will hopefully be useful!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here are a couple more potholders I finished a few weeks ago for mother's day. These two were for my mom and Gran.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iTeedNsUBYo/U3l4wbjYdnI/AAAAAAAAE1M/bBkDEs8UVt4/s1600/MaGPotholders2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iTeedNsUBYo/U3l4wbjYdnI/AAAAAAAAE1M/bBkDEs8UVt4/s1600/MaGPotholders2.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Like I mentioned in my previous post a few days ago, <a href="http://nanacompany.typepad.com/nanacompany/2013/10/pretty-little-potholder-tutorial-a-diy-step-by-step-guide.html" target="_blank">I used Amy's tutorial from Nana and Co.</a> She has a great <a href="http://nanacompany.typepad.com/nanacompany/2013/10/pretty-little-potholder-tutorial-a-diy-step-by-step-guide.html" target="_blank">step by step tutorial</a> on how to create these. <a href="http://nanacompany.typepad.com/nanacompany/2013/10/pretty-little-potholder-tutorial-a-diy-step-by-step-guide.html" target="_blank">View her tutorial here.</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yzy7DhqFbjM/U3l4w5rO9oI/AAAAAAAAE1Q/LcZXLHJvqZk/s1600/MaGPotholders3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yzy7DhqFbjM/U3l4w5rO9oI/AAAAAAAAE1Q/LcZXLHJvqZk/s1600/MaGPotholders3.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The main prints I used in this project were pulled from a<a href="http://brightlinen.blogspot.com/2014/01/new-fabric.html" target="_blank"> Serenade layer cake I have by Kate Spain for Moda.</a> The ruffle and binding fabric was some I've had on hand for a while. The gray is a Kona solid I think, and the white fabric is canvas I purchased from <a href="http://www.joann.com/" target="_blank">Joann's.</a> </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1vhyStDsOvo/U3l40YBkwFI/AAAAAAAAE1c/wdgIZ84DehM/s1600/MaGPotholders4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1vhyStDsOvo/U3l40YBkwFI/AAAAAAAAE1c/wdgIZ84DehM/s1600/MaGPotholders4.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Again, I wanted to make this extra personal so I decided to stitch "Mom" on the white canvas. I did this by writing out "Mom" with a disappearing ink pen on my fabric. I then dropped my feed dogs and used my darning foot to stitch over what I had drawn. I tried to make the down strokes a tad thicker for the text to look similar to calligraphy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-R5YtwnFYKCk/U3l45WWK1mI/AAAAAAAAE1k/zz5z4BVg_Pc/s1600/MaGPotholders5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-R5YtwnFYKCk/U3l45WWK1mI/AAAAAAAAE1k/zz5z4BVg_Pc/s1600/MaGPotholders5.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the quilting I used my old faithful <a href="http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2009/03/quilt-along-14-freemotion-quilting.html" target="_blank">meandering free motion pattern.</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4JL22c9sRdo/U3l5BOMbSXI/AAAAAAAAE2E/BnIYeQxLlQQ/s1600/MaGPotholders9.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4JL22c9sRdo/U3l5BOMbSXI/AAAAAAAAE2E/BnIYeQxLlQQ/s1600/MaGPotholders9.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is the one I created for my grandmother. Again, the patterned fabric is from my <a href="http://brightlinen.blogspot.com/2014/01/new-fabric.html" target="_blank">Serenade layer cake.</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QRaJZUbuBt0/U3l47WGpDUI/AAAAAAAAE10/69QnCJObRFI/s1600/MaGPotholders7.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QRaJZUbuBt0/U3l47WGpDUI/AAAAAAAAE10/69QnCJObRFI/s1600/MaGPotholders7.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I call my grandmother "Gran" so I decided to stitch that on the canvas. I do recommend starting out with a big piece of canvas so you can cut it down after you've stitched the name one. This gives you more control with the border of negative space.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-K05BaBGdBpc/U3l4_i84qxI/AAAAAAAAE18/TsNnL821-cc/s1600/MaGPotholders8.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-K05BaBGdBpc/U3l4_i84qxI/AAAAAAAAE18/TsNnL821-cc/s1600/MaGPotholders8.png" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also <a href="http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2009/03/quilt-along-14-freemotion-quilting.html" target="_blank">free motion quilted this one in the same meandering pattern.</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6RW8Wab8Pjw/U3l4mI33dXI/AAAAAAAAE0s/C1_HMaOvAto/s1600/MaGPotholders10.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6RW8Wab8Pjw/U3l4mI33dXI/AAAAAAAAE0s/C1_HMaOvAto/s1600/MaGPotholders10.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here they are together! So cute. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XHXGrOuImK4/U3l4qvrjp3I/AAAAAAAAE08/26kDorcYvP0/s1600/MaGPotholders11.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XHXGrOuImK4/U3l4qvrjp3I/AAAAAAAAE08/26kDorcYvP0/s1600/MaGPotholders11.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They each took only one night after work to complete, which isn't too bad! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gyoZeincr-c/U3l4rDzF9NI/AAAAAAAAE1E/RA7GsaRXvT4/s1600/MaGPotholders12.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gyoZeincr-c/U3l4rDzF9NI/AAAAAAAAE1E/RA7GsaRXvT4/s1600/MaGPotholders12.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love the way they turned out and hope my mom and Gran did too. :) I need to make one for us. Although, it's so much harder to motivate myself to make projects for our home verses projects for others. I always have a deadline with gifts. I need to start making deadlines for myself!</div>

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1uzAeg-w84Q/U3ZaIKheW6I/AAAAAAAAEys/y4vFW82nvaM/s1600/YardageChart.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1uzAeg-w84Q/U3ZaIKheW6I/AAAAAAAAEys/y4vFW82nvaM/s1600/YardageChart.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's a little chart showing how many inches are in different yardage cuts. I found <a href="http://thelostapron.typepad.com/files/yardage-chart-pdf.pdf" target="_blank">this chart</a> on <a href="http://thelostapron.typepad.com/" target="_blank">The Lost Apron</a> and used Ana's measurements to make a chart of my own! Knowing how many inches are in different yardage cuts may help you decide how much fabric you need. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is especially helpful when you're at the cutting table and the sweet lady is waiting for you to give her a length to cut while you frantically try to measure out what you need in your head. Although, you may be like me and ask "Could you show me how much 1/2 a yard more is?" "Ok, could I see how much just a 1/4 yard more is?" "So sorry, could I see 1/2 a yard again?" And then after all that you just decide to get a whole yard extra, just in case. Haha. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7e5wlKlO7y4/U3aQCIu0cdI/AAAAAAAAE0E/QBWD6h0OWds/s912/YardageChart-03.png" target="_blank">Here's the link to the 8.5" x 11" sheet.</a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here's a little bit about Fotostrap from their website if you aren't familiar with their wonderful company:</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I knew I wanted to do some sort of painted text on the strap and decided to paint a bible verse. I used the first part of Colossians 3:15 which says "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts." As someone who tends to worry, I have to remind myself of this verse often. </div>

</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-itRUvouCLhA/U3FKAK4eG4I/AAAAAAAAExU/IqczqScGp1Y/s1600/TriciaPotholder2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-itRUvouCLhA/U3FKAK4eG4I/AAAAAAAAExU/IqczqScGp1Y/s1600/TriciaPotholder2.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I recently finished a potholder for my mother-in-law. I decided to give the special women in my life little potholders for Mother's Day! When figuring out what kind I wanted to make, I remembered seeing <a href="http://nanacompany.typepad.com/nanacompany/2013/10/pretty-little-potholder-tutorial-a-diy-step-by-step-guide.html" target="_blank">this tutorial</a> from <a href="http://nanacompany.typepad.com/nanacompany/" target="_blank">Nana Company</a>. Amy has a great <a href="http://nanacompany.typepad.com/nanacompany/2013/10/pretty-little-potholder-tutorial-a-diy-step-by-step-guide.html" target="_blank">step by step tutorial</a> on how to make this pretty little potholder. You should go check it out and make your very own!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uLB9VPY1nWw/U3FKAAuXBGI/AAAAAAAAExQ/Ov-if_HqkQc/s1600/TriciaPotholder3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uLB9VPY1nWw/U3FKAAuXBGI/AAAAAAAAExQ/Ov-if_HqkQc/s1600/TriciaPotholder3.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the first of three I made for Mother's Day. I didn't want to have to cut my binding fabric on the bias since it leaves the unused fabric in such a weird shape. After finishing this with angled corners, I wished I had just cut my fabric on the bias. Amy's rounded corners make it so much cuter! It's still cute, but I decided to make the other two with rounded corners. The patterned fabric I used in this was from a <a href="http://brightlinen.blogspot.com/2014/01/new-fabric.html" target="_blank">Serenade layer cake by Kate Spain that I had on hand.</a> So many cute fabrics in that line! Amy suggests using this classic diamond straight line quilting. This was the hardest part for me! Ha. I don't know what it is, but I don't enjoy straight line quilting. It takes so much longer than free motion quilting for me. Needless to say, this was the only potholder I quilted with straight line quilting. :)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5151ATQeOsY/U3FKA-3sTZI/AAAAAAAAExc/LkyyKTj91L8/s1600/TriciaPotholder4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5151ATQeOsY/U3FKA-3sTZI/AAAAAAAAExc/LkyyKTj91L8/s1600/TriciaPotholder4.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Amy uses cute little fabric patches on the front of hers. I didn't have anything like that so I decided to sew her name on a piece of white canvas. I just wrote out her name with a disappearing ink pen and dropped my feed dogs on my machine to sew over the lines smoothly. I started with a big piece of what canvas so that I could square it up after I had sewn her name. I think it turned out well! I hope she enjoys using it as much as I enjoyed making it! :)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I recently finished a baby boy quilt for a friend of mine!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0xdY14OTgsQ/U2km8Zb8kDI/AAAAAAAAEt0/Pb0b2QuNM6A/s1600/LaurensQuilt2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0xdY14OTgsQ/U2km8Zb8kDI/AAAAAAAAEt0/Pb0b2QuNM6A/s1600/LaurensQuilt2.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I decided to use fabrics I had in my stash for this. I'm <i>really</i> trying not to let my stash get out of control! It's such hard work. It's so much more fun buying brand new fabric! Ha.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0_wLP0mdAS8/U2km8jOHa1I/AAAAAAAAEuk/N5aVYDHGNzs/s1600/LaurensQuilt3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0_wLP0mdAS8/U2km8jOHa1I/AAAAAAAAEuk/N5aVYDHGNzs/s1600/LaurensQuilt3.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is another half square triangle quilt like <a href="http://brightlinen.blogspot.com/2014/02/tutorial-fat-quarter-half-square.html">this tutorial I made.</a> Since I used fabric from my stash rather than fat quarters, I decided to start with 10" squares rather than the four 9" squares you get from a single fat quarter. 10" layer cake squares would be great to use for this quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MQVZ6LQBZwA/U2km9JTlRKI/AAAAAAAAEuA/MAGuKjMsOEw/s1600/LaurensQuilt5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MQVZ6LQBZwA/U2km9JTlRKI/AAAAAAAAEuA/MAGuKjMsOEw/s1600/LaurensQuilt5.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the backing, I purchased the same <a href="https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/15841/riley-blake/my-minds-eye/lost-and-found-2-stripe-gray-yardage" target="_blank">Lost and Found 2 - Strip Gray print from Riley Blake</a> that I used on <a href="http://brightlinen.blogspot.com/2014/01/square-quilt-complete.html" target="_blank">this baby boy quilt.</a> I browsed around for other options but I just love this one so much! It's a perfect understated boy pattern that matches just about anything.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q_vpsDu3c4s/U2km9ZHemJI/AAAAAAAAEuE/qxa5pGVEAQ0/s1600/LaurensQuilt6.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q_vpsDu3c4s/U2km9ZHemJI/AAAAAAAAEuE/qxa5pGVEAQ0/s1600/LaurensQuilt6.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
For the binding I used <a href="https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/1232/moda-fabrics/moda-fabrics/bella-solids-royal-yardage" target="_blank">Bella Solids Royal yardage from Moda</a>. I thought about going with a bright orange for contrast, but I knew the nursery was all blues. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GnPZ-Ohhpdk/U2km8y17rxI/AAAAAAAAEt4/Mu7gAsxs7-k/s1600/LaurensQuilt4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GnPZ-Ohhpdk/U2km8y17rxI/AAAAAAAAEt4/Mu7gAsxs7-k/s1600/LaurensQuilt4.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I used a meandering free motion quilt pattern for the quilting. I just love how crinkly it looks after you wash and dry quilts. If you'd like a tutorial on this kind of quilting, <a href="http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2009/03/quilt-along-14-freemotion-quilting.html" target="_blank">Elizabeth Hartman of Oh Frannson! has a great one here.</a></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I hope this gets used often for play time, tummy time, wrapping him up for walks, etc. I can't wait to meet the little guy in just a few weeks!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MscGoc2qMjE/U2km_beKbPI/AAAAAAAAEuw/5SAxxaAF1pc/s1600/LaurensQuilt8.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MscGoc2qMjE/U2km_beKbPI/AAAAAAAAEuw/5SAxxaAF1pc/s1600/LaurensQuilt8.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
They haven't quite decided on a name yet, so for the packing I used their last name. </div>

I'm in the process of putting together a new little pillow for our couch. I've been wanting to do this for some time now but have always been working on other projects! I've pulled some <a href="http://brightlinen.blogspot.com/2014/02/scrap-organization.html" target="_blank">scraps from my stash.</a> I'm liking it so far! I'm trying to decide if I want to add sashing, or a border around the 4 patches, or cut the 4" squares down to the 4-patch size... I'm not sure how it will turn out yet but it's fun working on a small project that will be displayed in our home!</div>

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1ZGbPx3Ro5g/Ux3EJP8it5I/AAAAAAAAEgI/zTn5NpZLdp4/s1600/HalfSquareTriangle1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1ZGbPx3Ro5g/Ux3EJP8it5I/AAAAAAAAEgI/zTn5NpZLdp4/s1600/HalfSquareTriangle1.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here's a sweet little half square triangle baby girl quilt I finished a while back.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span style="color: red;">NOTE:</span></b> I used the same method in <a href="http://brightlinen.blogspot.com/2014/02/tutorial-fat-quarter-half-square.html" target="_blank">this tutorial I made.</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pZfXcpLrhcI/Ux3EKKdhURI/AAAAAAAAEgc/QHBektDu724/s1600/HalfSquareTriangle2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pZfXcpLrhcI/Ux3EKKdhURI/AAAAAAAAEgc/QHBektDu724/s1600/HalfSquareTriangle2.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used Kaffe Fassett's fabric from <a href="https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/8505/rowan-fabrics/kaffe-fassett/kaffe-classics-red-fat-quarter-bundle" target="_blank">this Red Fat Quarter Bundle</a> and some gray solid fabric I had on hand.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TyxXix470wg/Ux3EKzhQzlI/AAAAAAAAEgw/6QrrSY7RnOI/s1600/HalfSquareTriangle4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TyxXix470wg/Ux3EKzhQzlI/AAAAAAAAEgw/6QrrSY7RnOI/s1600/HalfSquareTriangle4.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
For the binding, I used <a href="http://www.fortworthfabricstudio.com/shop/product/dm2999_candy/" target="_blank">this Mirror Ball Dot fabric in Candy by Michael Miller</a> that I purchased at my local quilt shop <a href="http://citycraftonline.com/theshop" target="_blank">City Craft.</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7D5fL3PMPEg/Ux3EKbgKHQI/AAAAAAAAEgk/KR9rv_DsuzY/s1600/HalfSquareTriangle3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7D5fL3PMPEg/Ux3EKbgKHQI/AAAAAAAAEgk/KR9rv_DsuzY/s1600/HalfSquareTriangle3.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GNkBQjOfmsI/Ux3EMCzuoZI/AAAAAAAAEhc/_swc0Q-ThIg/s1600/HalfSquareTriangle9.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GNkBQjOfmsI/Ux3EMCzuoZI/AAAAAAAAEhc/_swc0Q-ThIg/s1600/HalfSquareTriangle9.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also made a little 12"x12" ruffled pillow to match. Isn't it so sweet?! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tAyAD3Yv_Uw/Ux3ELLe9j7I/AAAAAAAAEhA/xLvO1XU7PlY/s1600/HalfSquareTriangle6.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tAyAD3Yv_Uw/Ux3ELLe9j7I/AAAAAAAAEhA/xLvO1XU7PlY/s1600/HalfSquareTriangle6.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
All of the colors are so bright and energetic. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TmTy5p0jmOY/Ux3EL-Gk8JI/AAAAAAAAEhI/f4g1yA_hEVk/s1600/HalfSquareTriangle7.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TmTy5p0jmOY/Ux3EL-Gk8JI/AAAAAAAAEhI/f4g1yA_hEVk/s1600/HalfSquareTriangle7.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
For the backing, I used a <a href="http://www.sewfreshfabrics.com/Sinister-Swarm-in-Vivacious-from-Field-Study-p/1263.htm" target="_blank">Anna Maria Horner's Sinister Swarm in Vivacious print from her Field Study line</a> along with a Japanese imported fabric I can't remember the name of. I purchased the backing fabric from <a href="http://www.stitchlab.biz/shop_home.html" target="_blank">The Stitch Lab in Austin, Tx. </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nqKdhOtyNgI/Ux3EJCGlTpI/AAAAAAAAEgQ/qa5shdpa2lQ/s1600/HalfSquareTriangle11.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nqKdhOtyNgI/Ux3EJCGlTpI/AAAAAAAAEgQ/qa5shdpa2lQ/s1600/HalfSquareTriangle11.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The was such a fun, easy quilt to work on. I can't wait to give it to someone special!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kTwaDNs-Lwg/Ux3EJwJ4SPI/AAAAAAAAEgo/hKsC7NSeP4E/s1600/HalfSquareTriangle12.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kTwaDNs-Lwg/Ux3EJwJ4SPI/AAAAAAAAEgo/hKsC7NSeP4E/s1600/HalfSquareTriangle12.png" /></a></div>

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2sL2lfrbRoM/Ux4H2Bm4zZI/AAAAAAAAEhw/nZu97wgCMRU/s1600/Pizza1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2sL2lfrbRoM/Ux4H2Bm4zZI/AAAAAAAAEhw/nZu97wgCMRU/s1600/Pizza1.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This past weekend, Daniel and I went to a 3rd birthday party for some sweet little kiddos we know! I made <a href="http://brightlinen.blogspot.com/2013/03/felt-cookies_5.html" target="_blank">these cookies</a> for them last year, and thought I would make them something similar. I wanted to make them something with a little more customization since they are older and are filled to the brim with imagination these days. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rWj3mj9nZG8/Ux4H2PTP_BI/AAAAAAAAEh0/hGqZgPApajI/s1600/Pizza2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rWj3mj9nZG8/Ux4H2PTP_BI/AAAAAAAAEh0/hGqZgPApajI/s1600/Pizza2.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I found <a href="http://www.ikatbag.com/2013/05/pizza.html" target="_blank">this felt pizza post</a> from LiEr of Ikat Bag and knew it would be such a fun thing for them to play with! The toppings I included are shown above. Toppings: Sauce, green bell peppers, black olives, sausage, pepperoni, cheese, Canadian bacon, and pineapple.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RFJtrPneBKA/Ux4H2-qN9ZI/AAAAAAAAEiE/6mwABf_qpiw/s1600/Pizza3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RFJtrPneBKA/Ux4H2-qN9ZI/AAAAAAAAEiE/6mwABf_qpiw/s1600/Pizza3.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I made 4 crusts so that they can each make two at a time or they can make one with their parents at the same time. LiEr walks you through her process of making the crusts <a href="http://www.ikatbag.com/2013/05/pizza.html" target="_blank">in her post.</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CKFAcLgTKm4/Ux4H3LL9rNI/AAAAAAAAEiM/Hks-sTWvTWk/s1600/Pizza4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CKFAcLgTKm4/Ux4H3LL9rNI/AAAAAAAAEiM/Hks-sTWvTWk/s1600/Pizza4.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There are so many fun combinations of toppings to put together!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NoqXoi55MSM/Ux4H42Z95dI/AAAAAAAAEi4/BzSJ2lHQbTs/s1600/PizzaGIF.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NoqXoi55MSM/Ux4H42Z95dI/AAAAAAAAEi4/BzSJ2lHQbTs/s1600/PizzaGIF.gif" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2iy0qNKRu2U/Ux4H3J12toI/AAAAAAAAEiU/curkeE6xxQs/s1600/Pizza5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2iy0qNKRu2U/Ux4H3J12toI/AAAAAAAAEiU/curkeE6xxQs/s1600/Pizza5.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Yum. I love supreme pizza. It looks good enough to eat!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ByL1v9CnEY0/Ux4H3_I_XZI/AAAAAAAAEiY/fu6lToBamFE/s1600/Pizza6.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ByL1v9CnEY0/Ux4H3_I_XZI/AAAAAAAAEiY/fu6lToBamFE/s1600/Pizza6.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
LiEr also shows that you can make fun faces and pictures with the toppings. So fun! Daniel made the monster face in the top right-hand corner. Haha. We had some fun playing around with it before we wrapped it all up.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-d4bI1KX3fPo/Ux4H4Eoau1I/AAAAAAAAEig/hkAOjagk3iM/s1600/Pizza7.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-d4bI1KX3fPo/Ux4H4Eoau1I/AAAAAAAAEig/hkAOjagk3iM/s1600/Pizza7.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
When I thought about all of the little pieces that would be included in this gift, I knew I wanted to give it in a way that would help it stay organized. The topping could get out of control and messy really fast. Look at all those little pieces of cheese!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8MWeDK1JiN8/Ux4H4j1Q2lI/AAAAAAAAEi0/nPL7-odTf0U/s1600/Pizza8.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8MWeDK1JiN8/Ux4H4j1Q2lI/AAAAAAAAEi0/nPL7-odTf0U/s1600/Pizza8.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I found these little <a href="http://www.target.com/p/gladware-mini-round-containers-8-ct/-/A-12407197#prodSlot=medium_1_12" target="_blank">GladWare plastic containers</a> at Target for just $2.59! Each pack comes with 8 containers. The perfect amount for what I needed.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-54Po_xaIoPM/Ux4H4im_t4I/AAAAAAAAEis/iVdAr008BQo/s1600/Pizza9.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-54Po_xaIoPM/Ux4H4im_t4I/AAAAAAAAEis/iVdAr008BQo/s1600/Pizza9.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I purchased a <a href="http://www.michaels.com/12x12-Scrapbook-Cases/sb0929,default,pd.html?cgid=products-scrapbooking-storage" target="_blank">12x12 scrapbook case from Michaels</a> to keep the containers and pizzas in. I bought the plastic case and the silver stars from Michaels for less than $6.00!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-e2RgME8z6a8/Ux4H2JfQIwI/AAAAAAAAEh4/tbctns4S8gw/s1600/Pizza10.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-e2RgME8z6a8/Ux4H2JfQIwI/AAAAAAAAEh4/tbctns4S8gw/s1600/Pizza10.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I finished it up with a big red bow on top to try and hide the goodies inside. This was such a fun project to put together! It looks like a lot of cutting, but it's the kind of project that you can work on while sitting on the couch watching a show. I had such a fun time working on it and hope the kids have a fun time playing with it!<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I pulled these fabrics from my stash last night. I'm sure you can guess, but this is going to be a new baby boy quilt! I have an idea for what I want to do, but I may change my mind by the time I'm through cutting. We'll see! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Most of these fabrics are either Bella or Moda solids. There is one piece of <a href="https://www.fabric.com/buy/ff-322/kaufman-essex-linen-blend-medium-aqua" target="_blank">Kaufman Essex Linen Blend in Medium Aqua</a> and the pattern on the bottom is pulled from my <a href="http://brightlinen.blogspot.com/2014/01/new-fabric.html" target="_blank">S</a><a href="http://brightlinen.blogspot.com/2014/01/new-fabric.html" target="_blank">erenade layer cake by Kate Spain.</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I can't wait to start cutting!</div>

Here's a little illustration showing the basic quilt sizes! I can't even imagine doing a king size quilt. Ha. Maybe someday!</div>

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tEE2wzVDRKw/UxTDQn9uUzI/AAAAAAAAEb4/WvcrWgtC72U/s1600/Starburst10.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tEE2wzVDRKw/UxTDQn9uUzI/AAAAAAAAEb4/WvcrWgtC72U/s1600/Starburst10.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I finished this Starburst baby quilt a while back. This was when I first learned how fun half square triangles can be! I could make so many fun designs with them. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-e5cizlXaxKo/UxTDSqGaZeI/AAAAAAAAEcw/ic3vh8_Av6A/s1600/Starburst2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-e5cizlXaxKo/UxTDSqGaZeI/AAAAAAAAEcw/ic3vh8_Av6A/s1600/Starburst2.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I used solids and couple Kaffe Fassett fat quarters I've had for a while. The center star is made up of <a href="https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/12077/free-spirit-fabrics/kaffe-fassett/kaffe-classics-millefiore-red-yardage" target="_blank">Millefiore Red fabric</a> and the other pattern is from <a href="https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/8505/rowan-fabrics/kaffe-fassett/kaffe-classics-red-fat-quarter-bundle" target="_blank">the same bundle.</a> I don't remember the name. The orange is <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/kona-cotton-flame-yardage" target="_blank">Kona Cotton Flame.</a> So bright and fun!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IA4-yNTqAPU/UxTDSR8Yf_I/AAAAAAAAEcg/2C8DswimtDM/s1600/Starburst5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IA4-yNTqAPU/UxTDSR8Yf_I/AAAAAAAAEcg/2C8DswimtDM/s1600/Starburst5.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I actually used some muslin I had on hand for the white. I was a little worried it wouldn't wash well with the other fabric since it wasn't great quality, but it worked out great! It actually came out of the dryer looking extra crinkly, which I love.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3-Lk_OuJpl0/UxTDQkQjYLI/AAAAAAAAEb8/2Bec6Jngros/s1600/Starburst1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3-Lk_OuJpl0/UxTDQkQjYLI/AAAAAAAAEb8/2Bec6Jngros/s1600/Starburst1.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I don't know if I've mentioned it before but I don't wash and dry my fabric before I start sewing. I have no huge argument for that decision. I actually am impressed by those who take the time and care to wash, dry, and iron their fabric before they start. I think I just don't have the patience! Ha. So as you could imagine, looking at these bright colors, I was a tad worried when I washed it. I just imagined bright orange and red bleeding onto the crisp white. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QxM3fvXDxUU/UxTDSrpjHQI/AAAAAAAAEco/qZz6C0Jn81A/s1600/Starburst6.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QxM3fvXDxUU/UxTDSrpjHQI/AAAAAAAAEco/qZz6C0Jn81A/s1600/Starburst6.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It turned out great though! No problems at all.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-d0LTIUmHHm8/UxTDRajIfxI/AAAAAAAAEcQ/kMf1Ue2CnwE/s1600/Starburst3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-d0LTIUmHHm8/UxTDRajIfxI/AAAAAAAAEcQ/kMf1Ue2CnwE/s1600/Starburst3.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the backing, I used <a href="http://www.fabricworm.com/jadeforbifam24.html" target="_blank">Dottie Cream Shroom fabric by Jay-Cyn Designs for Birch Fabrics</a>. I love this fabric! I need to buy more of it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2x6UfEKQDTQ/UxTDRwYjAlI/AAAAAAAAEcY/R-7T_dUE1VU/s1600/Starburst4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2x6UfEKQDTQ/UxTDRwYjAlI/AAAAAAAAEcY/R-7T_dUE1VU/s1600/Starburst4.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I wanted to show a close up of a mistake I made while quilting. As you can see in the middle of the picture above, I quilted a wrinkled part of the fabric. It's not that noticeable but I wish I had pinned a little more thoroughly. Lesson learned!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OY7NOIsFW8o/UxTDTd4QGyI/AAAAAAAAEc8/xvFMMS6d7x8/s1600/Starburst8.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OY7NOIsFW8o/UxTDTd4QGyI/AAAAAAAAEc8/xvFMMS6d7x8/s1600/Starburst8.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
For the binding I used a pretty fuchsia colored solid that matched some of the pinks in the patterned fabric.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-F2HdTQLL2O4/UxTDSyjmQnI/AAAAAAAAEc0/LaTpkqCvYag/s1600/Starburst7.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-F2HdTQLL2O4/UxTDSyjmQnI/AAAAAAAAEc0/LaTpkqCvYag/s1600/Starburst7.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I quilted this in a meandering free-motion quilting pattern. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GEJ-OJL6arQ/UxTDRC_cORI/AAAAAAAAEcE/hjWpqmci2Fg/s1600/Starburst12.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GEJ-OJL6arQ/UxTDRC_cORI/AAAAAAAAEcE/hjWpqmci2Fg/s1600/Starburst12.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
It was so fun making a pattern up for this quilt using little half square triangles. Oh the possibilities! I'm not sure who will end up with this quilt, but I have a feeling it won't sit around long. My sweet friends are having babies right and left! :)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3Joj-9WpivY/Uw91W7jR-2I/AAAAAAAAEa8/ewxeuE0RYjI/s1600/Lanyard1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3Joj-9WpivY/Uw91W7jR-2I/AAAAAAAAEa8/ewxeuE0RYjI/s1600/Lanyard1.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Today I thought I would share a little lanyard I made for my mom a while back. Last Mother's Day I gave my mom, grandmother, and mother-in-law a lanyard like this one. Along with the lanyard, I also made them a little pouch (that I didn't take pictures of...) and included a little charm pack and these adorable <a href="http://www.joann.com/gingher-stork-3-1-2in-embroidery-scissors/3537222.html#prefn1=isProject&prefn2=brand&q=scissors&prefv2=Gingher&prefv1=false&start=6" target="_blank">Gingher Stork Embroidery Scissors.</a> I also have these scissors and keep them on a lanyard around my neck when I am sewing. They are perfect for cutting thread and little things as you work. They are also so pretty to look at! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FB2moS48sS8/Uw91XXMYBcI/AAAAAAAAEbE/-UMVXqsqFxA/s1600/Lanyard3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FB2moS48sS8/Uw91XXMYBcI/AAAAAAAAEbE/-UMVXqsqFxA/s1600/Lanyard3.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For my mom's lanyard I used <a href="http://www.sewfreshfabrics.com/Sinister-Swarm-in-Vivacious-from-Field-Study-p/1263.htm" target="_blank">Anna Maria Horner's Sinister Swarm in Vivacious print from her Field Study line.</a> For the snap I used my <a href="http://www.joann.com/babyville-snap-pliers/11108974.html" target="_blank">Babyville Boutique Snap Pliers. </a>I blogged more info on them <a href="http://brightlinen.blogspot.com/2013/02/a-sweet-friend-of-mine-works-in-nicu.html" target="_blank">in this post.</a> I bought them to use on a baby project but have been using them a lot on non-baby projects. The snaps are such fun colors!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZLOz7b6iGHo/Uw91WzKx8yI/AAAAAAAAEbA/zpwsxA4jYnc/s1600/Lanyard2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZLOz7b6iGHo/Uw91WzKx8yI/AAAAAAAAEbA/zpwsxA4jYnc/s1600/Lanyard2.png" /></a></div>
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZLOz7b6iGHo/Uw91WzKx8yI/AAAAAAAAEbA/zpwsxA4jYnc/s1600/Lanyard2.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><br /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZLOz7b6iGHo/Uw91WzKx8yI/AAAAAAAAEbA/zpwsxA4jYnc/s1600/Lanyard2.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><br /></a><br />
I can't remember my exact measurements, but I think I cut a 2"xWOF strip of fabric to begin with.<br />
<br />
I then ironed it in half, wrong sides together, and used the crease made as a guide to fold my raw edges into the center and ironed again. The strip was now 2 layers thick and 1" wide.<br />
<br />
The ends still had raw edges, so I folded those about an inch in before folding the whole strip in half on the original crease. The strip was now 4 layers thick and 0.5" wide.<br />
<br />
I top stitched around the edge to keep it closed.<br />
<br />
I then overlaid one end of the strip on top of the strip about 4" above the end, as you can see above, and added one half of a snap.<br />
<br />
I added the other half of the snap at the bottom of the other end. This way you can loop scissors through!<br />
<br />
The whole project took me about 30 minutes or less!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00174410350616928217noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1487036335517510911.post-31811855638421335822014-02-26T13:31:00.002-06:002014-02-26T13:34:04.879-06:00PB&J Disappearing 9-Patch Baby Boy Quilt<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2RyMTjbkH2Q/UwvPg6NzusI/AAAAAAAAEYU/-2ymBOwdY7g/s1600/SquareBabyQuiltCompleteTutorial.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2RyMTjbkH2Q/UwvPg6NzusI/AAAAAAAAEYU/-2ymBOwdY7g/s1600/SquareBabyQuiltCompleteTutorial.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This quilt was inspired by the modern looking quilts by <a href="http://craftyblossom.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Crafty Blossom</a>. Aren't the colors Erica picked out for <a href="http://craftyblossom.blogspot.com/2012/09/pantone-parade-custom-quilt.html" target="_blank">this quilt</a> amazing?! The piecing is simple and dynamic. I'm not sure what her method is for piecing, but this is what I came up with. Its super simple!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rBfw7LuP8uI/UTE0gkiMUtI/AAAAAAAACpI/VCYsekYR7yk/s1600/Quilt3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rBfw7LuP8uI/UTE0gkiMUtI/AAAAAAAACpI/VCYsekYR7yk/s1600/Quilt3.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Materials</span></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<b><br /></b>Half Square Triangle Blocks</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
6 Fat Quarters <span style="color: #999999;">(Mine were all different colors)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<span style="color: #999999;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
Fabric for Backing</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
Batting</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
Fabric for Binding</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
</div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-O_UIPqWtwJo/UTEzqeAkHaI/AAAAAAAACoM/tJV-T0m00i8/s1600/Step1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-O_UIPqWtwJo/UTEzqeAkHaI/AAAAAAAACoM/tJV-T0m00i8/s1600/Step1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
1. Take your 6 fat quarters and square them up to be 18"x18".</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Azwp_tvVrhs/UTEzqbuesFI/AAAAAAAACoE/EbS0xHmb70U/s1600/Step2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Azwp_tvVrhs/UTEzqbuesFI/AAAAAAAACoE/EbS0xHmb70U/s1600/Step2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
2. Cut your 18"x18" squares into fourths. This leaves you with four 9" squares of each color.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sFLEZ2bPxuY/UTEzq8ZdDpI/AAAAAAAACoQ/kmkQruw8A-Y/s1600/Step3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sFLEZ2bPxuY/UTEzq8ZdDpI/AAAAAAAACoQ/kmkQruw8A-Y/s1600/Step3.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="text-align: center;">3. Pair up all the squares, right sides together. <span style="color: #999999;">You can mix the colors around if you'd like. I did not.</span></span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #999999;"><br /></span></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ryvy9ZiH6xg/UTEzq2wcOBI/AAAAAAAACoU/xsSjo93_rqA/s1600/Step4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ryvy9ZiH6xg/UTEzq2wcOBI/AAAAAAAACoU/xsSjo93_rqA/s1600/Step4.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="text-align: center;">4. Sew around all four sides of your 9" square sandwiches and then cut into fourths diagonally. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pyw-ItVlhbs/UTEzrD_iyeI/AAAAAAAACoY/PsZ8b-BB9DQ/s1600/Step5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pyw-ItVlhbs/UTEzrD_iyeI/AAAAAAAACoY/PsZ8b-BB9DQ/s1600/Step5.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5. Once pressed open, you have perfect little half square triangles!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FaKXIy6PJOA/UTEzrDXwPXI/AAAAAAAACoc/NEd2SU6fBrU/s1600/Step6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FaKXIy6PJOA/UTEzrDXwPXI/AAAAAAAACoc/NEd2SU6fBrU/s1600/Step6.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
6. Once you've pressed them all open, you're left with 48 squares or 96 triangles! Now piece your half square triangles together randomly; 8 rows and 6 columns.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pmcrSyBxq0I/Ut6oWTiA5eI/AAAAAAAAD84/KH3kepAX__E/s1600/HawlendarComplete2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pmcrSyBxq0I/Ut6oWTiA5eI/AAAAAAAAD84/KH3kepAX__E/s1600/HawlendarComplete2.png" /></a></div>
<br />
7. Now you just need to baste, quilt, and bind! I chose a bright orange pattern for my binding. I thought it really popped against the blue tones.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L_YwOlbOKTM/Ut6oeOcFWVI/AAAAAAAAD9o/jsjxi3mYupQ/s1600/HawlendarComplete4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L_YwOlbOKTM/Ut6oeOcFWVI/AAAAAAAAD9o/jsjxi3mYupQ/s1600/HawlendarComplete4.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
For the backing I chose a neutral fabric. I honestly cannot remember the name of this fabric. I bought it before I started jotting down what fabric I use. I know I bought all of the fabric used in this quilt at <a href="http://citycraftonline.com/theshop" target="_blank">City Craft.</a> For the quilting, I used a free-motion meandering pattern. Elizabeth Hartman has a <a href="http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2009/03/quilt-along-14-freemotion-quilting.html" target="_blank">great tutorial</a> on this kind of quilting if you aren't familiar with it. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The finished size is about 31"x42.5". </div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
All in all, such a fun quilt. I will definitely be using this pattern again in the future!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Please let me know if you have any questions or if you catch any mistakes I may have made! Thanks.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I thought I'd share a little potholder I made for my mom a while back. I just used a current potholder I had as a template. I made it at least an inch bigger all the way around. I quilted two sandwiches bigger than I would need and then I cut them down to size. I didn't have heat resistant batting on hand so I just used two layers of batting. It seems to have worked for her!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QiVdPQcj2gQ/UwuTlHHwatI/AAAAAAAAEX0/yEO4w9T4Sr4/s1600/MomsPotholder2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QiVdPQcj2gQ/UwuTlHHwatI/AAAAAAAAEX0/yEO4w9T4Sr4/s1600/MomsPotholder2.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I mostly used scraps I had left over from piecing <a href="http://brightlinen.blogspot.com/2013/03/hand-quilting.html" target="_blank">this quilt</a> that I am hand quilting. I haven't worked on that quilt in such a long time! The fabric is from the <a href="http://www.dsquilts.com/fabric_and_patterns.asp?PageID=255" target="_blank">Chicopee line from Denise Schmidt.</a> I love the saturated colors! </div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
It was a quick project that has been useful to mom ever since. I love projects that get a lot of use once finished!</div>

<br />
I love the way this baby quilt turned out. So simple and sweet. I decided to create a tutorial for how I went about putting it together. This definitely isn't the only way. Let me know if you have any questions!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;">Materials</span><br />
<b><br /></b>
Square Blocks<br />
32 - 4" Squares<br />

11 - Blue (Bella Solids Aqua)<br />
9 - Dark Gray (Bella Solids Stone)<br />
12 - Green (Kona Cotton Mint)<br />
<br />
You can get 4" Squares from the following:<br />

32 Charm Pack Squares <span style="color: #999999;">(Most charm packs come with 42 pieces of fabric.)</span><br />
2 Fat Quarters <span style="color: #999999;">(You can cut 20 4" squares from one fat quarter.)</span><br />
<span style="color: #999999;"> </span>32 scraps that are at least 4"x4"<br />
<br />

1 yard - White Fabric (Bella Solids White)<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #999999;">(I didn't use the orange pictured above and additionally </span><span style="color: #999999;">used a </span><span style="color: #999999;">light gray and white fabric.)</span></div>
<br />
1. Cut out all of your 32 4" squares and set aside.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s_30cVBEwEs/UwfCYqc_gXI/AAAAAAAAEVk/YYCxpGw-rcY/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s_30cVBEwEs/UwfCYqc_gXI/AAAAAAAAEVk/YYCxpGw-rcY/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial1.png" /></a></div>
<br />
2. From your light gray fabric:<br />
<br />
Cut 10 2" x WOF strips.<br />
<span style="color: #cccccc;">We are going to use these strips to chain piece. If you'd prefer not to chain piece, you can cut the following (I highly recommend chain piecing! It saves time and thread):</span><br />
<span style="color: #cccccc;">24 - 2"x8" strips</span><br />
<span style="color: #cccccc;">24 - 2"x4" strips</span><br />
<br />
Subcut 16 - 2"x7" strips from 3 of them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5136S-SL_xw/UwfCYvungoI/AAAAAAAAEVw/coBTliz5IM0/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5136S-SL_xw/UwfCYvungoI/AAAAAAAAEVw/coBTliz5IM0/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial2.png" /></a></div>
<br />
3. From your white fabric:<br />
<br />
Cut 13 2" x WOF strips.<br />
<span style="color: #cccccc;">We are going to use these strips to chain piece. If you'd prefer not to chain piece, you can cut the following (I highly recommend chain piecing! It saves time and thread):</span><br />
<span style="color: #cccccc;">40 - 2"x8" strips</span><br />
<span style="color: #cccccc;">40 - 2"x4" strips</span><br />
<br />
Subcut 9 - 2"x7" strips from 2 of your 2" x WOF strips.<br />
<br />
Also, cut one 5" x WOF strip. Take your 5" strip and sub cut into six 5"x7" rectangles.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Creating the Blocks</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MyZAvziDgE0/Utb3AaT_NxI/AAAAAAAAD1o/T9i18F9fsvY/s1600/SquareBabyQuilt4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MyZAvziDgE0/Utb3AaT_NxI/AAAAAAAAD1o/T9i18F9fsvY/s1600/SquareBabyQuilt4.png" /></a></div>
<br />
Now that our fabric is cut, we are going to separate our squares into two groups. One group will be bordered in white fabric while the other with be bordered in gray fabric.<br />
<br />
4. Group One <span style="color: #999999;">(will be bordered in gray fabric):</span><br />
<br />
Gather 12 squares. For mine I took 3 blue squares, 5 gray squares, and 4 green squares.<br />
<br />
5. Group Two <span style="color: #999999;">(will be bordered in white fabric):</span><br />
<br />
Gather 20 squares. For mine I took 8 blue squares, 4 gray squares, and 8 green squares.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-huVV9-PBM1I/UwfCZOTme7I/AAAAAAAAEWU/LeGpvC8kLrY/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-huVV9-PBM1I/UwfCZOTme7I/AAAAAAAAEWU/LeGpvC8kLrY/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial4.png" /></a></div>
<br />
6. Take Group One and use your gray 2"xWOF strips to chain piece down one side of your 4" squares. When chain piecing, try to leave no more than a half inch gap between squares.<span style="color: #999999;"> (If you decided not to chain piece, use 12 of your 2"x4" strips.) </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sQvijkeefqY/UwfCZcgEFFI/AAAAAAAAEWQ/47P0w9XnpAU/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial6.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sQvijkeefqY/UwfCZcgEFFI/AAAAAAAAEWQ/47P0w9XnpAU/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial6.png" /></a></div>
<br />
7. Once you've sewn the gray strip of fabric down one side of your 12 squares in group one, cut the remaining gray strip of fabric off at the end. You can cut apart each square or just turn the whole thing around and chain piece again the same way down the opposite side. <span style="color: #999999;">(If you are not chain piecing, use the remaining 12 gray 2"x4" strips here.)</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qevLFa4XaiA/UwfCZsq6kUI/AAAAAAAAEWM/m7SyP35JXLk/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial7.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qevLFa4XaiA/UwfCZsq6kUI/AAAAAAAAEWM/m7SyP35JXLk/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial7.png" /></a></div>
<br />
8. Once you've finished chain piecing the gray strips of fabric down two opposing sides of your squares, cut them apart, set your seams, and press them open. Once pressed open, use your square piece of fabric as a guide for squaring up the strip you sewed on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fghl34llWoA/UwfEktIImCI/AAAAAAAAEWs/_ZiF1h2e0uU/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial8.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fghl34llWoA/UwfEktIImCI/AAAAAAAAEWs/_ZiF1h2e0uU/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial8.png" /></a></div>
<br />
9. Take another 2" gray strip of fabric and repeat steps 6-8 on the other two sides of your squares. <span style="color: #999999;">(Use your 2"x8" strips for this if you are not chain piecing.) </span>Once the squares are bordered, square them up to 6.5".<br />
<span style="color: #999999;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-krBrGJ26hC0/UwfF11yCDuI/AAAAAAAAEXE/rccjfOCZbVc/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial9.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-krBrGJ26hC0/UwfF11yCDuI/AAAAAAAAEXE/rccjfOCZbVc/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial9.png" /></a></div>
<br />
10. Take Group Two and repeat steps 1-4 with your white strips of fabric. <span style="color: #999999;">(If you are not chain piecing, use your 40 2"x4" strips for the first two sides and your 40 2"x8" strips for the last two sides.)</span><br />
<span style="color: #999999;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7axNHWQky48/UwfFNGVNjVI/AAAAAAAAEW0/8N3fTZ-uAOw/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial10.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7axNHWQky48/UwfFNGVNjVI/AAAAAAAAEW0/8N3fTZ-uAOw/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial10.png" /></a></div>
<br />
11. Once all of your squares are bordered in your gray and white fabric, you should be left with 32 6.5"x6.5" blocks!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5KtoDLGf_K8/Utb2_08gRtI/AAAAAAAAD1Y/MJk7ayXbVO8/s1600/SquareBabyQuilt2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5KtoDLGf_K8/Utb2_08gRtI/AAAAAAAAD1Y/MJk7ayXbVO8/s1600/SquareBabyQuilt2.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Creating the Rows</span><br />
<br />
Now that we have all of our blocks created, it's time to sew them into rows! We will have 4 rows of 5 blocks bordered in white and 3 rows of 4 blocks bordered in gray.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FPGWym0l9UE/Ut1j7JrOWLI/AAAAAAAAD5s/prPkKXXmhno/s1600/Strips2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FPGWym0l9UE/Ut1j7JrOWLI/AAAAAAAAD5s/prPkKXXmhno/s1600/Strips2.png" /></a></div>
<br />
12. Sew 4 White Block Rows:<br />
<br />
Each white block row includes 5 white blocks and 4 2"x8" gray strips.<br />
<span style="color: #999999;">Sew each row in this order: </span><br />
<span style="color: #999999;">White block, gray strip, white block, gray strip, white block, gray strip, white block gray strip, white block. </span><br />
<br />
Once the row is sewn together, trim the sashing strips to the same height as the blocks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xMFNpxvvWAo/UwfJlSiGLpI/AAAAAAAAEXU/F7OJneT7R28/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial12.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xMFNpxvvWAo/UwfJlSiGLpI/AAAAAAAAEXU/F7OJneT7R28/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial12.png" /></a></div>
<br />
13. Sew 3 Gray Block Rows:<br />
<br />
Each gray block row includes 4 gray blocks, 3 2"x8" white strips, and 2 5"x7" white rectangles.<br />
<span style="color: #999999;">Sew each row in this order: </span><br />
<span style="color: #999999;">White 5" x 7" rectangle, gray block, white strip, gray block, white strip, gray block, white strip, gray block, white 5" x 7" rectangle.</span><br />
<span style="color: #999999;"><br /></span>
Once the row is sewn together, trim the sashing strips and rectangles to the same height as the blocks.<br />
<span style="color: #999999;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4QaKhaZdroE/UwfJk3GegHI/AAAAAAAAEXY/Mg_cKaHGA6c/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial13.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4QaKhaZdroE/UwfJk3GegHI/AAAAAAAAEXY/Mg_cKaHGA6c/s1600/SquareQuiltTutorial13.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Piecing the Top</span><br />
<br />
Now that we have all our rows sewn, all we have to do is sew them together!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VBWeptoBIx0/UuFGlQQmhPI/AAAAAAAAD_I/WaDL9_W1ZuE/s1600/SquareBabyQuiltPieced1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VBWeptoBIx0/UuFGlQQmhPI/AAAAAAAAD_I/WaDL9_W1ZuE/s1600/SquareBabyQuiltPieced1.png" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
14. Sew rows together on top of one another alternating white rows and gray rows.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Completing Your Quilt</span><br />
<br />
You've now complete piecing the top! Way to go! Now you just have to baste, quilt, and bind. I quilted this in a free-motion meandering quilt pattern.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z2YorHSf5FI/Uug70QXZR8I/AAAAAAAAEEU/w0kRPNnU8I4/s1600/SquareBabyQuiltComplete5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z2YorHSf5FI/Uug70QXZR8I/AAAAAAAAEEU/w0kRPNnU8I4/s1600/SquareBabyQuiltComplete5.png" /></a></div>
<br />
When I started this quilt, I wasn't exactly sure how wide it would end up being. Luckily, it's narrow enough that you can use one piece of fabric for the back. I love not having to piece backing fabric together. I know a lot of quilters take a time and care in thinking about the back of the quilt, but once I finish completing the top of mine, I'm ready to move on to the next one! So, anything that will push me to complete the whole thing is a bonus.<br />
<br />
I've found using a neutral backing fabric really makes the front pop. For the backing I used a gray and white striped fabric called <a href="https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/15841/riley-blake/my-minds-eye/lost-and-found-2-stripe-gray-yardage" target="_blank">Stripe Gray from the Lost and Found 2 collection by Mind's Eye for Riley Blake.</a> For the binding, I used a cute blue and white striped fabric called Ticklish Tipsy Turquoise Laughing Stripe.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Finished!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-a171sTaRRmo/Uug7zT1PKLI/AAAAAAAAEEE/A5QoxqO8tY4/s1600/SquareBabyQuiltComplete1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-a171sTaRRmo/Uug7zT1PKLI/AAAAAAAAEEE/A5QoxqO8tY4/s1600/SquareBabyQuiltComplete1.png" /></a></div>
<br />
We're now completely finished with our square baby quilt! Thanks for following along this tutorial. Please let me know if you have any questions or if there are any mistakes I've made while putting this together. I'm certain someone will find something :)

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rDdc-E_n_Po/UwO6paS8OXI/AAAAAAAAESM/xIrjXONPKsA/s1600/Scraps1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rDdc-E_n_Po/UwO6paS8OXI/AAAAAAAAESM/xIrjXONPKsA/s1600/Scraps1.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Today I thought I'd share how I organize my scraps. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Aem2XBfydZw/UwO6qZbuqSI/AAAAAAAAESo/IflhjvRfvOE/s1600/Scraps2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Aem2XBfydZw/UwO6qZbuqSI/AAAAAAAAESo/IflhjvRfvOE/s1600/Scraps2.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've just recently started this process and I love it! Basically, rather than keeping wrinkly odd shaped pieces of scrap fabric stuffed into tubs or jars, I take a little extra time after each project I complete to iron and cut them down to manageable sizes. I can't remember where I saw this idea. I think in one of my mom's quilting magazines a while back? </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--oxZBQiYq7U/UwO-A6FlF5I/AAAAAAAAES4/Am5k2aCBjEM/s1600/Scraps3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--oxZBQiYq7U/UwO-A6FlF5I/AAAAAAAAES4/Am5k2aCBjEM/s1600/Scraps3.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
You can cut your scraps down to whatever size you use most frequently. As you can see in the picture above, I decided to cut my scraps into 2", 3", 4", and 5" squares. I also decided to cut my longer scraps down to 2.5" strips. This is the size I use for binding my quilts and is also the width of jelly rolls.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LQDGo0vgbt0/UwO6oo6qKSI/AAAAAAAAESA/CLZVsA4B6p0/s1600/Scraps4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LQDGo0vgbt0/UwO6oo6qKSI/AAAAAAAAESA/CLZVsA4B6p0/s1600/Scraps4.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am much more anxious to start a scrappy project when I look at my scraps now! They are just begging to be put to use. Though, I think I'm going to wait a little longer so I have more to work from. I'm not sure I have enough yet to complete a whole quilt. I'd love to make one like <a href="http://www.pleasant-home.com/2013/10/scrap-jar-star-quilt-finish.html" target="_blank">Jodi did from Pleasant Home.</a> She calls it her <a href="http://www.pleasant-home.com/2013/10/scrap-jar-star-quilt-finish.html" target="_blank">Scrap Jar Quilt.</a> I think I would just need to use my 2" squares and 4" squares to create those half square triangles. I'd also need a ton of white! So pretty.</div>

All in all, I would highly recommend storing your scraps this way! I am determined not to have bins and bins of fabric and this will definitely help me follow through!</div>

I'd also like to point out these beautiful flowers. My husband gave them to me for Valentine's Day a few days ago. He's the sweetest!</div>

She made me a vynil box pouch with a bright green zipper! I love it. I honestly use it almost everyday. </div>

I'm not sure what the fabric is called, but I know she bought it at <a href="http://citycraftonline.com/theshop" target="_blank">City Craft.</a> The pouch is just one layer thick, but because she used vinyl, it holds its shape really well. Thanks again Ashley!</div>
