Cutting Guide: Half Square Triangle Chart

I made another little reference guide. I used this chart as inspiration. It has been so helpful to me in the past! I just wanted to make on in the same style as the others I've created.

Click here to download the 8.5"x11" version.

EDIT: In the comments below, you will see Carol had a great question. I didn't clarify in the chart above how to cut your fabric to end up with the sizes in the right column. There are a few different ways to piece together half square triangles. The chart above reflects this method. In her video, Jenny shows a super speedy method of getting 4 half square triangles from one square sandwich. You basically sew a quarter of an inch all the way around your quilt sandwich, then cut diagonally from corner to corner.

If you haven't taken time to browse Missouri Star Quilt Co.'s video tutorials, you should definitely take a look. I learn more visually, so it helps so much to watch Jenny show the process of making all different quilts and projects. Most of her projects are made from precuts, which make the piecing process so much faster.

Please let me know if any of you have any more questions or if there is anything else I can help clarify!

  1. I am looking at your half square triangle chart, but I don't seem to make sense of it... would you be able to explain it to me? How do you sew the squares together to get the finished size? I tried to go to the chart that you listed as your inspiration, but the page would not come up. Thank you for your help!

    1. @badgersue Thanks for reaching out! Did you watch the video I linked to above? If not, I highly suggest taking a minute to watch it. Jenny demonstrated how to get 4 half square triangles from 2 pieces of fabric. My chart above reflects this method. If you have watched it and still don't understand, please let me know. Thanks!
