A sweet friend of mine works in the NICU taking care of tiny little babies. I found this tutorial from Badskirt a while back and decided to finally make one! In her tutorial, Amy shows how to make simple little hospital gowns for premature babies. I sent this one with Abby, my nurse friend, to be approved at her hospital before I start making more. I can officially say I've sewn a piece of clothing now! I know it hardly counts, it's so small, but it's encouraging!
For this project I used Kaffe Fassett fabric my parents gave me last year at Christmas. I got the whole Kaffe Classic - Red Fat Quarter bundle! They purchased it here from The Missouri Star Quilt Co.
This was also my first time using snaps. Amy mentions using plastic snaps rather than metal ones. This way, the gown doesn't have to be removed for x-rays and they aren't burning hot when removed from the dryer. At Joann's I found these Babyville Boutique Snap Pliers. With my 40% off coupon they were only $12.00! Not too bad. They had all different colors of snaps to choose from. I chose the Babyville Snaps Playful Pond pack.
I like the way the gown turned out and can't wait to make more!
